APPA is now available as a software packet (see under Products).

APPA is unique for sound and vibration monitoring in industrial applications.

APPA is programmed in C++, and makes all the calculations of the analyses, and makes it easy for other applications to grasp the results.

The software packet makes it easy for companies working with CIM systems to integrate APPA in their own applications and solutions.

After breaking with Leonhard Research this spring Frank Leonhard has continued his work in the field of human sound perception in the company Leonhard. Expertises about the new technology are now only present in Leonhard.

He has now succeeded in deriving a revolutionary model called APPA (Auditory Perceptual Pulse Analysis), which resembles the behaviour of the human ear. APPA is applicable in areas such as

Speech recognition
The strength of APPA when applied to Speech recognition is its indifference to personal voice characteristics and is able to identify vowels in noisy environment. The APPA model even identifies whispered vowels with impressing accuracy. APPA will improve the performance of any existing speech recognition system by providing speaker independent information based on physical phenomena related to transient characteristics.

Likewise APPA is suited for the establishment of speech intelligibility systems in the communications industry.

Quality assurance
APPA is a comprehensive expansion and improvement compared to previous transient analysis methods like HARMONI. APPA analyses not only sharpness or roughness better than methods like HARMONI but the full sound picture including the sound colour and vowels. APPA will therefore be able to detect faulty items in a production line, as well as items with a 'wrong' sound identity! Examples are a defective ball bearing, broken gears, rattle noise, Rub & Buzz, etc. To be short APPA detects any deviation from a wanted sound pattern, as perceived by a human. APPA is also the key to analyse speech intelligibility.

Data communication
APPA will provide high quality speech compression in narrowband telecommunication as less space is required to encapsulate the determinant speech parameters.

Development of the technology will continue in Leonhard.

Leonhard offers APPA licensees and consultancy in sound technology.

The technology is patent pending
